Omega-3 Benefits

Every day research reports and articles are coming out promoting the incredible benefits of omega 3s fatty acids. From oily fish and algae, we get EPA (or eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (or docosahexaenoic acid), and from some plant sources such as nuts and seeds we get the omega 3 fatty acid ALA (alpha-linolenic acid). Combined, EPA, DHA, and ALA are required for healthy bodily functions with the bonus of delivering some big health benefits which include the following:

Heart Health:

Omega 3s support a healthy heart rhythm, cardiac strength, and blood vessel strength. They improve blood flow, helps maintain a normal blood pressure.

Brain Health:

For adult’s omega-3simprove mood, memory, recall, reasoning, and focus. We need to support brain health as we age. Research has shown that omega-3 fish oil supplements alleviate the symptoms of depression, bipolar disorder, and psychosis.

Joint Health:

The omega-3 EPA has a positive effect on inflammatory response meaning it helps the body to manage many painful inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and bronchial asthma.

Migraine Relief:

Research has shown that there’s a decreased frequency and severity of migraines whenomega-3 fish oils capsules were taken that contained EPA and DHA.

Endocrine System Health:

Fish oils improves insulin sensitivity and reduces insulin resistance in older adults. This is welcoming news for people who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes. Giving cod liver oil to children during their first year reduces juvenile diabetes by as much as 25%.

Infant, Toddler, Child, and Adolescent Health:

Since omega-3s are a strong supporter of brain health, many pregnant and nursing mothers can shape their baby’s intelligence and happiness by supplementing with fish oil. Some research shows that children with ADD and ADHD experience a greater quality of life when taking a daily dose of a combined EPA and DHA. EPA and DHA deficiencies may contribute to childhood autism, from 5-17 years, so giving children a daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids (or EPA and DHA) is suggested.
