You may think reflexology is like a massage, and mainly for relaxation. But it can bring great benefits to athletes or those passionate about exercising through loosening tense muscles and speeding recovery from injury or overuse.
In uninjured athletes, reflexology relaxes muscles, tendons and ligaments so the body functions as intended, or smoothly and easily. For optimal athletic performance, muscles not used for each movement must be in a state of relaxed readiness. When those unneeded muscles are tense, they interfere with our desired movements, waste our energy, and increase our risk of injury.
When the body is injured or overused, reflexology stimulates the body’s natural healing processes to speed the recovery process. Working on the body’s specific foot reflex related to the injury, as well as the adrenal gland reflex, triggers all those wonderful naturally occurring processes that increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, and speeds your body’s realignment. Muscles that have gone into spasm are able to relax, rest, and recover.
Why should you play through pain? It’s not good for your body, and it’s not good for your game. Contact me to schedule a session so you can return to normal and play your best.
